Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation Scholarship Requirements and Application - 2020
The Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation (SCMGF) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide committed support for the Snohomish County Master Gardener Program through community service, educational outreach, and fundraising.
One way of providing access to educational opportunities is through the SCMGF Scholarship of $2000 awarded to a Snohomish County resident enrolled in or entering a Washington State college or university to study horticulture. The recipient is determined by the Scholarship Committee of the Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation based on the criteria listed below.

Qualifications for application:
- Accepted by a recognized accredited college/university.
- Planning a course of study in horticultural, botanical or strongly related fields.
To apply, submit the following:
1. The completed application cover sheet.
2. An official sealed copy of grade transcripts.
3. A one or two page essay on your choice of vocation or profession, how you have planned for the future, and how
your education will influence that future.
4. A summary of your activities and service to your family, your school and your community. This summary should
include any awards or honors received and may be submitted as a résumé.
5. At least two (2) letters of recommendation (one preferably from an instructor).
Criteria for the Scholarship:
Applications will be judged on the county and state level on the basis of:
- Essay on choice of Profession or Vocation 25 points
- Evidence of planning for the Future 25 points
- Academics (showing interest in horticultural areas) 20 points
- GPA 5 points
- Activities & Service 25 points
- Total 100 points

- The deadline for submission to the Snohomish County committee is February 28, 2020.
- A Snohomish County scholarship committee will screen applicants. Only one applicant from Snohomish County per year can be submitted to the State Selection Committee. The selected
application will be forwarded to the Master Gardener Foundation of Washington State Awards Committee for final selection.
- Once the scholarship committee has made its selection, the recipient will be informed by the committee.
- Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the college/university in the recipient’s name.
